Kumbh Mela Latest Updates 2025

Devotees in Prayagraj Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 will be able to experience the historic city from a new perspective, i.e. from the deck of hydrogen-powered mini-cruise ships. Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department is set to give the tourist yet another big reason to attend the Maha Kumbh Mela next year. The mini-cruise ships, to be introduced in Prayagraj next year, will be operated on the Ganga River between Prayagraj and Kashi (Varanasi).

The mini-cruise service will be similar to the ones operated in Varanasi allowing the travellers to enjoy the view of long ghats, their historic edifices, and scenic landscapes from on-board. It will have a capacity of about 50 people and have all the facilities for a comfortable tour. A pantry, bio-toilets, comfortable seatings, and a spacious open dec for a 360° extended view of the river bank.

This new water-based tourism has resulted from the collaboration of the U.P. State Tourism Development Corporation and the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI). The tourism department wants to utilize the vast potential of the Ganges River, thus the river will be channelized for this purpose. However, the authorities have clarified be use of eco-friendly, sustainable, and economically viable methods for water tourism.

The Transport Corporation of Uttar Pradesh has rolled up its sleeves as Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 is about to knock on the door. Through a recent virtual meeting with the regional managers, the Additional Managing Director of Uttar Pradesh Road Corporation, Ram Singh Verma informed that the Transport authority will be ready with over 7,000 buses to transport the devotees to-and-fro Prayagraj (2025 Maha Kumbh Mela Site).

According to the information, additionally, 550 shuttle buses will be operated by Urban Transport and U.P. Transport Corporation.

The Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 of Prayagraj will be dealt with in phases, where 3,050 buses will be allocated in the first phase (Between 12 January - 23 January), and a total strength of 7,000 buses from the second phase (January 24 onwards).

This management setup will ensure smooth transits for devotees arriving and leaving from Prayagraj during Kumbh Mela Snan.

Kumbh Mela Mitra will be deployed not only in the Mela campus but areas around the Kumbh Mela site to help devotees and the administration in various situations. Amidst all the excitement for the 2025 Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, AIIMS Raebareli announced a special health service for Kumbh 2025. AIIMS Raebareli plans to establish a temporary 10-bed ICU on the Mela premises. In addition, they will offer free OPD and diagnostic investigations for the pilgrims. To support these services, a temporary on-site laboratory equipped with state-of-the-art machines for blood and other major tests will also be set up.

The Kumbh Mela authority wrote a letter approving AIIMS Raebareli's proposal and agreed to allocate land for these facilities. Preparations are already underway, which has given the devotees a major relief. The ICU and OPD will have specialist doctors from AIIMS Raebareli itself, ensuring comprehensive medical care during the event.

Earlier, the Government's Health Ministry and Kumbh Mela Health Authority also announced contributing to health services during the 2025 Prayagraj Kumbh Mela throughout the city limits.

The health ministry allocated 125 crores in 18 health-related projects which included the upgradation of hospitals in the area, city limits, and health centres on the route leading to the mela. The Mela health authority decided to set up 43 temporary hospitals with around 380 beds for the devotees.

However, this is the first time AIIMS Raebareli is offering ICU facilities in Kumbh, it is not the first time any AIIMS has offered free services in Kumbh Mela. In the 2021 Haridwar-Kumbh-Mela, AIIMS Rishikesh also did a similar venture for devotees in Haridwar. Conclusively, this step demonstrates a continued commitment to supporting the health and safety of pilgrims during these large-scale religious gatherings.

The latest news regarding the 2025 Kumbh Mela is the introduction of 900 special trains by the Indian Railways. In preparation for the Kumbh Mela at Prayagraj, foreseeing the visits by over 30 crore devotees, railways has taken such an initiative. Crowd management and plans for seamless and comfortable travel are already in the works by the North Eastern Railways, and plans to enhance security measures to ensure safety of all its passengers. The railway board further aims to implement better technology such as higher quality audio devices and TV screens to better facilitate the movement of passengers who can then keep themselves updated with information regarding the trains easily. Along with these measures, the infrastructure in and around the railway stations of Prayagraj is also being renewed. The Kumbh Mela that will take place at the Sangam in Prayagraj will begin from 13th January 2025.

The 2025 Kumbh Mela at Prayagraj is set to establish itself as the “Green Kumbh” as per a latest update regarding the event. With the title of the “Green Kumbh”, the authorities are aiming for a polythene-free and eco-friendly Kumbh Mela, and plan to plant and grow 3 lakh saplings.

Coming forth with an environmentally conscious approach, the 2025 “Green Kumbh” Mela is part of the Uttar Pradesh government’s overall plan for the Kumbh budgeted at Rs. 5,154 crores. This plan includes 327 approved projects and 75 projects that are currently ongoing, all with a deadline aimed for October 2024. The committee constituted to overlook the arrangements for the Kumbh Mela is headed by the Chief Secretary of the state of Uttar Pradesh, and has so far held 13 meetings for the cause.

Here are the important developments regarding the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 till date:

• The Kumbh Mela 2025 in Prayagraj will take place in an area covering 4,000 hectares of land.
• Construction of new infrastructures such as 6 parking lots covering 1,900 hectares that can accommodate more than 5 lakh vehicles.
• Introduction of a concrete VIP ghat and a pucca ghat at the Dashashwamedh Ghat.
• Construction of a 13 km long riverfront and flyovers for ease of traffic.
• Construction of 2 more circuit houses, and pontoon bridges.
• Construction of accommodation for public, changing rooms, places of worship, motorboats as well as floating jetty for 25,000 people.
• Establishment of 10 lost-and-found centers, 9 renewed railway stations and a smart road that will connect the airport directly to the site of the mela.
• Enhanced security measures that are backed by AI, drones, and CCTV cameras throughout the Maha Kumbh Mela.
• Expansion of Prayagraj Junction Railway Station, and airport.
• Construction of Akshay Vat, Patal Puri, Saraswati Kupe, Hanuman Mandir, Shringverpur Dham and Bhardwaj Corridor for the devotees.

With such special arrangements and initiatives by the state government, Kumbh Mela 2025 is off to a great start. Held in the holy city of Prayagraj, the Kumbh Mela will commence from the 13th of January, and conclude on the 26th of February, 2025.
